Scottish ClubSport announced their 2025 Award Winners at their AGM and have spent the last couple of months going out to deliver the awards to the recipients in person.
This is the first article, of four, which tells you a little bit more about our award winners.
Peter Hardie - Service to sport award 2025
The Service to Sport Award recognises the significant contribution made by volunteers over many years within a club, community and/or a Sports Council or ClubSport Network. The local awards feed into the National Scottish ClubSport Service to Sport Award and this year’s worthy winner, Peter Hardie, is definitely someone who has given countless hours, time and energy to sport in the Scottish Borders.
With over 47 years involvement at Duns Badminton Club, 35 years at Duns Tennis Club and Berwickshire High School (after-school clubs), and 38 years with Berwickshire Sports Council/Clubsport Berwickshire, the panel felt that Peter has certainly put in the hours to support the development of sport and people within his local community! His enthusiasm and energy has provided the opportunities for countless individuals to get and remain involved in sport, mainly Badminton and Tennis, with his reach being wide and long lasting.
Clubsport Berwickshire noted, that there are countless people playing high level badminton around Scotland and beyond because of Pete’s coaching and advice. Many of them have moved on to do coaching and/or help run clubs. Duns Tennis Club also made him a life member as a gesture of gratitude for everything he’s done at the club (coaching and committee duties).
Peter has also been involved in Borders ‘Squad’ type set-ups for Badminton and Tennis over the years – coaching, organising fixtures and supporting players at a regional and national level.
The Scottish ClubSport Service to Sport Award 2025 is another in the long list of awards that he has received for coaching badminton and tennis over the years and he has received other awards such as Duns Citizen of the Year 2015 and the British Empire Medal in 2017 – both of which also recognise his significant contribution to coaching in Duns, Berwickshire and the Scottish Borders!
