The winner of the Scottish ClubSport Service to Sport award, sponsored by Forsyths is Alan Hill. The award was presented at this years ClubSport Roxburgh awards evening to recognise Alan`s long standing commitment and efforts towards community and club sport.

Extract from the awards evening presentation:
For over 55 years Alan has held the post of secretary for Jed Thistle RFC.
On match days you will find him in the kitchen buttering bread and helping with the food.
For the past 50 years he has organised the Welsh trips with New Tredegar. Also arranged the trips to Guernsey, Cornwall, Blackpool and Whitley Bay and many others.
Alan arranged the recent trip to Orkney, and as a mark of respect to him, when they arrived the boys started singing “Jetharts Here” this was very special to him as his other love is the Jethart Callants Festival and this brought back memories of when he was Callant in 1978.
it is vital for the survival of local Clubs that we have people like Alan, who selflessly give up their time since without these people we might not even have clubs.

Jed Thistle produced 25 youth caps for Scotland.
The Club have also produced 9 full Scottish Internationals.
3 of them going on to play for The British Lions, all number 9’s and also captaining them in some of the games.
Where would we be if people did not take on these committee roles?
Alan regularly falls asleep late of an evening so I hope that he can stay awake long enough to accept this award.
