Service to Sport award presented at this years Network Dinner and Awards on 7th September at Perth Racecourse
This award is to recognise the significant contribution made by volunteers to grassroots sports over 15 or more years. This award recognises someone who has made significant contribution over many years within a Sports Council, ClubSport Network, and/or club setting. Their selfless efforts and commitment to the growth of community sport deserves recognition. In addition to celebrating their remarkable contributions, we will also highlight and acknowledge the unique qualities and distinctive approach they have brought to their work, setting them apart as truly exceptional.
This years recipient has been involved in judo for over 40 years. He started as a junior member in the Highlands and progressed on to support the younger members as a coach in his teenage years. Over the years he has continued this role and is a UKCC Level 2 coach and has run Aboyne Judo Club in Aboyne and Banchory as Chairman and Coach since 2005. He is a highly respected judo referee who worked his way through the ranks. In April, he travelled to Kazakhstan for a week where he completed his International A Referee Award, making him one of 6 in Great Britain. He continues to encourage and support other referees from throughout Britain on their pathway, especially the younger members who are interested in taking up refereeing. In September he stood down as a Director of Judo Scotland having served 12 years on the Board. He is a member of the National Refereeing Council and became their Chairman in October. He travels, nationally and internationally, to carry out his refereeing duties. He is also a Senior Examiner in Judo and travels all over to carry out this role. He is a true inspiration to the sport of Judo.
