Young Leader of the Year presented at this years Network Dinner and Awards on 7th September at Perth Racecourse.
This award is to recognise the significant contribution made by a young person (aged 18-25) to grassroot, school, community or club sport.
This years Young Leader of the Year has been an enthusiastic and proactive advocate for getting youth involved in how sports organisations function. One of the initial ways she has supported this within the Royal Yachting Association Scotland was helping the Chief Executive Officer draft and promote the advert for an Under-25 non-executive Director on the RYA Scotland Board. Her ideas helped shape it into an attractive role and through the promotion they received a good number of strong applications from young people with a variety of backgrounds. This young leader has also supported conversations that the organisation has had about a program to connect more directly with younger sailors and introduce a “Youth Voice” into the decision making process. This young leader has attended sailing events and been a positive presence around young people encouraging them to share their views.
This years Young Leader of the Year is a fantastic ambassador for club sport in Scotland. She has been a member of the Scottish ClubSport Young People`s Working Group for 2 years, one of the original members, where she has directly supported the development of the group, led projects and supported members. She is also an active member of her local sailing club and regularly supports the club with training and guidance. She also volunteers for her university dance club where she takes on committee roles which can be administratively heavy but all in support of the club. Recently, this young leader secured a Sports Development internship at Abertay University.
